Tickets will be available here on March 1, 2012.

January 31, 2012 - State of the Art!

The Theatre now has the most modern projection system, lighting system, and sound system -- as you would expect.

But you may not expect that we are installing a ticketing system that is used by many, many major venues.  When our new ShoWare system is up, patrons will be able to:

      1.  Visit our web site to see all scheduled events and performances.
      2.  See what seats are available in all sections of the theatre.
      3.  Select individual or multiple seats
      4.  Buy your selection online using any major credit card
      5.  Print your tickets at home, or pick them up at the box office, or even have them mailed your way.
      6. Handicapped ?  The same things apply for our handicapped patrons.  We have both  wheelchair spots and ADA compliant seats.

Hang on folks, it's starting to get very exciting.  Indeed.

January 24, 2012 - City of Merced transfers operation of the Theatre to the Merced Theatre Foundation.

December 22, 2011 - Carpet is installed.  House lighting is up and running.  Stage lighting is in the house.

A walk-through on December 22nd noted that there were around 150 spotlights (or more)  on the stage waiting to be installed.  There were speakers installed everywhere I looked in the auditorium.  The sound and lighting are both going to be fantastic!

December 9, 2011  The Theatre has seats!

Over 1100 seats have arrived and are installed.  Check on Facebook - search for Merced Theatre.

December 1, 2011  Bricks have been installed.

The bricks that were ordered by members of the community are now installed along the sidewalk on Martin Luther King, Jr Way.

In 1998 a group of Merced residents formed the Merced Theatre Foundation, Inc., with the goal of restoring the Theatre to its former glory as a showplace for motion pictures and live performances.

The mission of the Foundation is to:

"Restore the historic landmark Merced Theatre as a self-supporting center for arts, entertainment, and civic events for Merced and the Central Valley."

The not-for-proft Foundation and the City of Merced have worked with historic preservation experts to guide the restoration of the Theatre.

The Merced Theatre Foundation's goal was to complete Phase One and Phase Two prior to the Diamond Jubilee Gala celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Theatre in October 2006.

This goal was met on schedule. Phase Three was given a boost when a major grant was received in August 2007. (See the Events page.)
